There is strong evidence that the new media also change the reality of peace and war, especially in so-called asymmetric conflicts. New types of electronic media produce formerly unknown procedures of organizing conflicts and violence in which general social and political conditions interfere with the technical possibilities provided by the Internet. The inquiry into these mechanisms will not only allow a deeper understanding of the evolution of media impact on conflict reality, but may also contribute to the development of specific competencies for the management and prevention of such conflicts.
The complexity of these dynamics requires new data mining and analysis strategies which will be the main focus of the workshop. Presenter: Ralf Klamma (Aachen) - Media and Conflicts Jürgen Lerner (Konstanz) - Visualization of Conflicts in the Media Lothar Krempel (Cologne) - n. n. |
